Yesterday the compact fluorescent bulb in the lamp at my bedside went up in smoke. I smelled something burning, saw smoke rising from the bulb and saw a dull orange glow around the base. Turned it off and inspected it, the lamp had burned through part of the plastic housing. It was a good lamp for 8 years, up to the point it tried to catch fire.

Today, eating a very all-natural salad at work, I paused for a moment to remove a lady bug from my butter lettuce. I was on careful lettuce inspection duty for the rest of the meal, but the lady bug provided curiosities for Doug and me while we ate. For example, why did the lady bug walk the entire periphery of the table? We don't know.
