I don't enjoy playing poker, or blackjack, or most other gambling games. I'm watching the 2002 World Series of Poker on ESPN2 right now, though, and wow! They're very impressive players. But, I'm sort of confused about some of the rules. For instance, in poker tournaments, it's a zero-sum game (well, actually, in a kN-sum game, where each of the N players starts with k chips). So, if you win the first hand, you have more money than everyone else. Why don't you just raise each hand thereafter to just above the second place player's holdings? They couldn't call, so you'd win, no? It looks like, in the ESPN2 show, that you can call "all in" and perhaps match someone who's done that. Or, maybe it's just not considered sporting. Hm.

I also wonder - are the hands loaded? They're showing lots of really sweet hands. Maybe they're showing just the good ones -- the hands where the best player has a 2 and an 8 are just trimmed from TV viewing. 8) Someone just got a big haul with a pair of jacks. Neat.
