One of the things the place I work at does particularly poorly is bringing new engineers up to speed. Today's case in point: mailing lists. There are enough mailing lists for every permutation of 6 people in the company, or something like that. Which ones I'm supposed to sign up for is a mystery. Even after consulting with my manager and friends, I found out I'm still not on the "people working in group X" list, even though I am working in group X. It's a bother that several of these things weren't set up for me in the first place. And that I discover that I'm missing important meetings, etc., only by coincidence. No wonder no one knows who I am in the company.
