My parents called me this evening, as is usual, and we chatted for about 20 minutes. Seems that a bonsai nursery, just across the street and 3 addresses down the hill, was on fire at the time. The entirety of the City of Tukwila's fire department was on the scene helping out -- they don't have a real fire very often. And, apparently it was real enough: they hooked in to the hydrant and were pumping water into the building. I don't know the extent of the damage, as it was too dark for my folks to see. I'll find out more tomorrow. And, yes, for the astute magellanic lj reader: this is the same bonsai nursery that imported the plants with the citrus long-horned beetles, which led to the state-imposed deforestation of the neighborhood. I don't wish the nursery ill -- it actually wasn't their fault -- but it's a strong meme in my mind connected to them. Hopefully, no one was hurt in tonight's fire.
