This morning around 11a a fire truck pulled in front of the complex and a couple of EMTs walked inside, led by a young kid. The apartment manager had passed out overnight and her daughter and grandson came to check up on her, and called 911. She's okay but will be checked over at the hospital just the same. A bunch of my neighbors came out of their apartments to see what was going on, and Patti organized us to move the big branch out of the drive. Seems my Dad was right - you meet your neighbors only during disasters.
A bit of lore I learned this morning: during the Loma Prieta quake in 1989, apparently, the water of the pool in my complex crested over the _roof_ of the building. That's 20+ feet tall. Yeesh. I have a renewed respect of the power of plate tectonics.
